Testimonials

sotoMr. Victor Soto was born in Panama City, Panama; he began his music and keyboard education at the age of 12, with the Panamanian organist Roque de las Rosas.  Three years later, he enrolled at the National Conservatory of Music, presently known as National Institute of Music of Panama, where he studied with the well-known Panamanian pianist Professor Edwin Abdiel Lombana.

Mr. Soto earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance from Southwest Minnesota State University, and a Master’s degree in piano performance from Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he studied with the distinguished pianist Dr. David Viscoli.  Because of his excellent academic achievement, successful teaching experience, and performance abilities at MSU, Mr. Soto was selected as an MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Student Achievement Recognition Award recipient for 2005.

While studying for his degrees, he performed in a number of master classes including those of Christopher O’Reilly and Andre Watts.  He also represented Panama in various piano competitions and by performing chamber music and solo recitals in South America and in the United States, including a performance at the Macphail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In January 2006, Mr. Soto joined the music faculty at Mountain View College in Dallas where he is currently the Director of Music.  At that school, he participated in the creation of online music courses, a music fundamentals textbook, new music ensembles, the creation of concert series, and the reinstatement of a prestigious piano competition. He is currently a member of the Dallas Music Teacher Association, the American Liszt Society, the Music Teacher National Association and the College Music Society.
