Students
of all ages (children and
adults) and all levels
(beginners to
advanced) may be enrolled in any of the programs we offer. While our
school year begins in mid-August, students may start at any time they
wish.
We teach all of our students to be literate in Music. In addition to learning how to play their instrument of choice, they also learn how to read music, memorize it, and perform artistically. The following paragraphs provide a definition for each of the different categories offered at Coppell Conservatory. To go directly to the category of interest to you, click on the name that corresponds to it: Piano students may enroll in Private Piano or Group Piano; in addition, adults may choose the RMM program. Private Piano students may select from "Developing Artist" or "Basic Private" or "Adult Private Piano" regardless of experience, knowledge, or ability. Advanced students may enroll in "Master Series" with the approval of the Director. In addition to their regularly scheduled lessons, Private Piano students have five (5) Performance Classes per year. Most of these classes are taught by the Director and are used to educate the students in the etiquette of Piano Performance, to develop the self-confidence needed to perform in public, and to acquire appreciation of music in general. It is in these classes that the students master the skills they need to perform in public (recitals, festivals, competitions, auditions, etc..) with confidence. Developing Artist (DA): The student has two 45-minute lessons per teaching week, one is the Private Lesson itself, and the other is the Musicianship Class. The Private Lesson is taught one-on-one and focuses on technique and artistry. The Musicianship Class is taught in a group of 4 to 6 students of approximately the same age and level, and focuses on theory, musicianship, rhythm, composition, music history, and music appreciation. Both, Technique and Musicianship, are covered during the private lesson. For 4 to 5-year old children we recommend a 30-minute Private Lesson. The class has a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 students of approximately the same age. Both, Technique and Musicianship, are covered during the session. Students are taught on keyboards; they put on headphones and do not hear one another. The teacher works with each student separately, giving them effectively an individual lesson and enabling them to progress at their own pace. A Group Piano for Kindergateners (PLK) is also available. This category is exclusively reserved for grade K students. PLK lessons last 45 minutes.
