Mr. Ron Montgomery graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. At SMU, he studied with former Metropolitan Opera tenor Thomas Hayward. He received his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from West Texas A&M University, where he was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in both the voice and music theory departments. A native of Dallas, Texas, Mr. Montgomery spent most of his professional life in Italy, where he furthered his studies with the bass Enrico Fissore and the soprano Sylvia Rhys-Thomas. He sang in many concerts and recitals, as well as performed operatic roles, most notably at Italy’s famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan. His repertoire ranges from the Baroque masters and eighteenth century Neapolitan comic opera to modern works by Respighi, Stravinsky and Bernstein – and the more standard fare of Verdi and Puccini. Mr. Montgomery was a finalist
in both the Metropolitan Opera Guild Auditions (Southwest Region) and the San
Francisco Regional Auditions. Mr. Montgomery’s
strong, ringing tenor voice has won praise both in the U.S. and abroad.
He has built a
reputation for musicality,
expression and attention to interpretive detail.
Music directors have sought him out for a wide
variety of concert
and recital engagements, as well as the musical theater.
Conductors
value his professionalism, and praise his musical precision,
reliability, and dedication. An intelligent singer, a patient, but demanding teacher, and an affable colleague, Mr. Montgomery brings experience, insight and dedication to his art. Mr. Montgomery teaches Private Voice and Diction for Singers at the University of Texas at Arlington. He joined Coppell Conservatory in August 2007.
