Ms. Lay Keng Chew is from Malaysia. She started piano the age of 6 and completed the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, Grade 8, at the early age of 14. She obtained the Performer's Certificate at the ATCL (Trinity College, London) before continuing her tertiary education in the United States. 

Ms. Chew obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa, and she completed her Master of Music Education with an emphasis in piano pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Chew has had several influential teachers, including Drs. Rene Lecuona, Digby Bell, Jane Magrath, and Edward Gates.
