ChewMs. Lay Keng Chew was born and raised in Malaysia. She started studying and playing piano at the age of 6, and she completed the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, Grade 8, at the early age of 14. She obtained the Performer's Certificate at the ATCL (Trinity College, London) before continuing her tertiary education in the United States. 


Ms. Chew obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa,
and she completed her Master of Music Education with an emphasis in piano pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma.  Ms. Chew has had several influential teachers, including Dr. Rene Lecuona, Dr. Digby Bell, Dr. Jane Magrath, and Dr. Edward Gates.

Ms. Chew has been teaching private piano, musicianship classes, and group piano at Coppell Conservatory since 2000.  She is a highly dedicated and patient teacher who has motivated her students to excel at competitions and recitals.  Her students consistently achieve high scores in the Texas State Theory Tests as she is able to prepare them and help them master the fundamentals they need.  Her objective is to ignite the younger generation's creative ability and motivate them to do their best.  Ms. Chew's pedagogic aptitude makes her a wonderful teacher with teenagers and an exceptional one with very young students.  She teaches students of all ages and all levels, and she readily adjusts her teaching to meet the requirements and the aspirations  of each individual student.

Ms. Chew genuinely enjoys teaching music and dedicates herself to the development and the musical enhancement of all of her students.

Ms. Chew is a member of CMTA, the Texas Music Teachers Association (TMTA), and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
