StivenerMr. Charles Rhys Davies began playing guitar at the age of nine, influenced by the music of Richie Valens and Buddy Holly.  His father was his first instructor, but he began his classical studies at age twelve with Jan Ryberg.  At Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Mr. Davies studied jazz with Chuck Pangburn, and he continued to study classical and flamenco privately with Miguel Antonio.

Mr. Davies attended Richland College where he initially majored in English.  He later opted for a degree in Music.  In 2004 he transferred to Southern Methodist University (SMU) and began his studies with the American master Robert Guthrie.

He earned his Bachelor's degree in 2007, and has been teaching and  performing since then.  He has been performing for Carol Marks Music, Stuntzner Entertainment, and many other agencies since 2004; in addition, he regularly performs at concerts and special events.  He has appeared at the Morton Myerson Center both as a performer and as an accompanist, and has also worked with Shakespeare of Dallas as a composer and performer.  One of the highlights of his carreer as a perperformer is playing in the band with the late Randy Tallman for the 2006 production of “Midsummer Night’s Dream: The Musical.”

In addition to performing and composing, Mr. Davies has worked with under-privileged and at-risk children through the Dallas-based organization Big Thought.  He aided them in their 2007 production, “Book of Life” and their 2008 production, “If They Only Knew.”  Mr. Davies has also taught at Brook Mayes Southlake, the Zhen Music and Arts Institute, and MyGuitar 247 in Southlake.

In keeping with Coppell Conservatory's Mission Statement, Mr. Davies’ teaching emphasizes working with the student at his/her level and in his/her areas of interest, while also seeking to enhance and nurture his/her musical ability. Davies with student It is his hope that through his teaching, a love for all styles of music will be fostered since, through his own studies, Mr. Davies became aware of the guitar’s presence in virtually all styles of Western music.  In addition to teaching and performing, Mr. Davies also enjoys composing and arranging; one of his major goals is to put together an ensemble comprised of flute, clarinet, bassoon, viola and guitar.
